The Chain of Change project will organize approximately 24 groups of youth across the state of Illinois to individually and collectively strategize how to end violence against women and girls, thinking about their own roles in this work and relative to other communities.
As these video segments are created, Beyondmedia will upload them to the Chain of Change interactive website, enabling the participating groups and the general public to track the development of the project. The website will also facilitate discussion among these 24 groups about the work that is being made in an effort to strengthen bonds between these groups and to raise awareness of violence against women and girls, in all its complexity. What is Beyondmedia Education and how are they affiliated with Chain of Change? Chain of Change is a project of Beyondmedia Education. Beyondmedia Education is a not-for-profit based in Chicago, IL.
Beyondmedia envisions a compassionate and just society where universal access to media tools and information equip women and youth to document and communicate their stories, serve as educators and role models for others, influence public policy, and generate social transformation. Beyondmedia Education's mission is to collaborate with under-served and under-represented women, youth and communities to tell their stories, connect their stories to the world around us, and organize for social justice through the creation and distribution of media arts. Beyondmedia Education works with communities most in need of media education and services because of economic and/or social exclusion. Since 1996, we have partnered with over 100 community-based organizations and schools to produce media arts on subjects ranging from girls' activism to women's incarceration. If you reside outside the state of Illinois, but would like to submit your video for the Chain of Change website you may. Please note that Beyondmedia cannot provide you a toolkit if you are outside of the state, so you will have to produce your video on your own equipment. Chain of Change's intent is to provide youth with a platform to speak out against the violence directed toward women of all ages, to strengthen statewide youth organizing networks and increase dialogue through the Chain of Change website, and to facilitate the creation of innovative tools in the struggle against gender-based violence.
